Fast Facts on Sporting Event Outreach
A good booklet/tract is widely accepted during a sporting event. At the 2006 World Cup five people handed out 18,000 tracts in two weeks. A verbal gospel presentation was given 30 times a day on average. Very few are discarded in the area. Many people keep them as a memory of the event.
Historically sporting event evangelism has led to between 175 and 450 conversions worldwide. These have been followed up to the point of joining a local church of like faith. This event will once again be followed up from here in Australia so we will have greater control and input into the new believers’ lives.
Sports Impact was started as an initiative of people who are passionate about huge sporting event evangelism. People from several countries will be in South Africa working with Sports Impact and using tracts developed here in Australia. These are specifically designed for the FIFA World Cup outreach. At present we are in the process of translating the tracts into three other languages (Spanish, Korean, Arabic) and would like to add French and German.
Estimated cost: Each person is responsible for their own airfare and food. A share in the petrol cost is also expected. Several cities and stadiums will be visited. If persons wish to attend a game in the area we are witnessing, that too is at their own expense. A realistic estimate is $3000 per person for two weeks.
Dates: Matt will be in South Africa from 16 June to 3 July 2010. Persons interested may take part for some or all of this time.
An outreach will also be launched for the Sydney Live site. More will follow on this closer to the date.
Space this year is extremely limited. Therefore anyone interested needs to contact Matt very soon. Preference is given to spiritual maturity and comfort in sharing the gospel.
